The Start
Pink Lamp has humble beginnings (and a few names!) It is the baby of Hertfordshire based ‘Event Guy’ Charlie Evans. The story begins for Charlie at 11 years old when Charlie asked for some disco lights as a Christmas present. From here the first gig, a party for a family members birthday, and “DJ Chaz Disco” was born! Charlie would play music and set up equipment at any opportunity he could; at one point turning his grandparents dining room into the ‘music room’, which essentially meant filling the room with smoke, playing loud music and experimenting with all kinds of lighting effects!
The Middle
Charlie went on to become a professional full time DJ and got his first break in the areas biggest super club at that time, DeNiros. At just 17 Charlie started here working on lighting and doing warm up DJ sets at the very popular under 18 club nights. When he turned 18, he then gained a Friday warm up slot in the main club.
Then it was time for ‘King of the Decks’ a nationwide DJ Competition held by the biggest nightclub operator at the time, Luminar Leisure. Charlie came in 3rd out of the hundreds that entered all across the UK. From there, things went from strength to strength holding residencies around the country up to 5 nights a week; from Revolution Vodka bars to large clubs like Liquid and Oceana.
Along with the club DJing, Charlie started to invest in more equipment and went back to doing private functions and promoting what was then ‘Pro Disco Hire’. Getting busier with the private work he decided to give up his last residency, 2 years every Saturday night at ‘The Place’ nightclub in Cambridge and concentrate on his business.
The Future
After moving into larger events Charlie re-branded as Pro Event Hire which has now recently evolved into Pink Lamp.
The company has been lucky to work in some amazing venues and locations with a host of famous guests from John Major to Example.
Pink Lamp now operates from a 2,500 sq ft industrial unit and office in Melbourn, Herts with an additional 2 staff members.
Charlie says “I am extremely proud to have created a business doing something that I love. I hope that the growth continues, and we can provide many more great events along the way.”
